Isostasy and its Meaning
The theory of isostasy supposes that, in regions which have not been disturbed recently, each vertical column of the earth's crust with a certain minimum radius and extending to a depth of about IOO km has approximately the same mass. To find the deviation from this approximation in a given region, the density must be assumed as a function of depth. Such assumptions used at present for calculat...
متن کاملPADS Restoration and Its Importance in Reading Comprehension and Meaning Representation
Unlike competent human readers capable of inferring, tracing, and filling out gaps or hurdles left behind by authors' use of transformations in their writing such as permutation, addition, deletion, and substitution (PADS), these operations are challenging to computer readers and new foreign language learners. This paper reports a parser's use of a suite of NLP technologies clause boundary dete...
متن کاملThe physical meaning of phase and its importance for quantum teleportation
We argue that the two parties in a quantum teleportation protocol need to share more resources than just an entangled state and a classical communication channel. As the phase between orthogonal states has no physical meaning by itself, a shared standard defining all relevant phases is necessary. We discuss several physical implementations of qubits and the corresponding physical meaning of phase.

متن کاملThe Microscope and Its Meaning
Medicine has, no doubt, always had its icons, symbols we all use and recognize as emblematic of what we do and what we think of our profession.
